Labor Standards Low, a law to protect people who will engage in any jobs, can be also applied to part-time job. You should understand some of these law before you get involved in any troubles.

Age restriction

Under the law, there are a few restrictions for people who are under 18 when they work at part-time job. You should know following 2 important matters:

Minimum age
In Japan, you can't work at any type of part-time job until the first March 31st after your age 15 birthday.

Jobs you can't engage in if you are under 18
If you are under 18, you can't work:
・at late night (from 10PM to 5AM)
・more than 8 hours a day.

Other regulations you should know

Adding to age restrictions, there are a few regulations for work you should know.

You can have rest hours if you work more than 6 hours.
You are entitled to have resting hours during your work if you work certain hours: At least 45 minutes if you work more than 6 hours, at least 1 hour if you work more than 8 hours.

Your wage should be increased 25% after late night.
Your employer have to pay 25% more than your normal wage for work you work after late night (between 10PM to 5AM)

"Black Baito"

Under the law, employer have to treat their workers fairly. However, some of employer don't follow the rule and force their workers to work against their will by using any excuses such as lack of resources.

Those type of workplace, "Black Baito", a part-time jobs unfairly treat their workers, is a social issue these days.

Usually, "Black Baito"shows following trends:
・Force you to work quite longer time than the one originally agreed.
・Not to allow you take day-off even you have examination at your school.
・Not to allow to quit the job before the employer find the new person.
・Never pay increased wage for your late night work.
