Every employer has different payroll system, even the payday. Plus, your payment is paid through bank transfer in most cases. Here is general idea about payment in Japan.

Usually, there are 4 different types of payroll system.

Hourly wage
Wage defined by the hours you work. The more you work, the more you get.
Most of part-time job adapts hourly wage system.

Daily wage
Wage defined by a day you work. You will get paid based on how many days you work.
The sum of your daily wages will be paid once a month, it will become monthly payment based on daily wage (see next).

Monthly payment based on daily wage
Your payment is defined by how many days you work in a month. This unique payroll system is basically a monthly salary, but the amount of your total daily absence from work will be reduced from it when they pay the salary.
For example, you supposed to work 30 days in a month but you work only 25 days. In this case, you will get payment for 25 days only.

Monthly payment
Your payment is defined by a month you work. This system will be adapted for permanent employees or contractors.

How your payment be paid

In many cases, your payment, is paid through bank transfer. While the payment should be paid by cash under the law, most of employers will pay your payment through bank transfer (even daily wages) on the premise of mutual agreement between both parties.
