Having part-time job is very common for students.

For Japanese students, working at part-time jobs is very common. According to a report made by Policy on Cohesive Society, a government institution under cabinet office, in 2013, 70% of Japanese students in college have experienced of part-time jobs.

There are so many open part-time jobs in Japan. And, there are many way to find those jobs such as job-searching website and magazines.

It is not so difficult for you to find part-time job where you want to work, if you use those tools with some preparation.

Type of jobs

In Japan, you can find so many people working as part-time workers at so many different places. Here is some examples of part-time job for foreign students.

■Who can't speak Japanese well
・Light labor work such as moving at warehouse
・Filling foods in bento boxes at plant
・Kitchen at family restaurant or fast food-chain.

■Who can make general conversation in Japanese
・Store clerk at convenience store
・Store clerk at supermarket
・Waiter/Waitress at family restaurant
・Cafe

■Who can speak fluent Japanese
・Translator, interpreter, guide
・Counter clerk in hotel

Work schedule

Generally, most of part-time jobs require you to work more than 3 hours a day, 3 days a week. Some jobs will accept if you can work only weekend.

When you start to search part-time jobs, it is easier to find it if you understand your school schedule beforehand.

*Foreign student are allowed to have part-time job only if you have a work permission, "資格外活動許可" (Permission to engage in activity other than that permitted under the status of residence previously granted). These student can work up to 28 hours a week.

Money you can earn

The average wage of part-time job is between 900 to 1,000 yen. The wage will be different depends on the prefecture you work.

Several cases of your monthly earning

・Case1) work 28 hours a week:
28 hours×4 week×900yen~1,000yen =100,800 yen ~ 112,000 yen

・Case2) work 5 hours a day, 3 days a week
5 hours×3 days×4 weeks×900yen~1,000yen=54,000 yen ~ 60,000 yen
